What is gripe water?

Answered on 11th January 2016

Gripe water is an old-fashioned remedy for colic that contains sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and herbs such as dill seed oil, ginger and fennel. Gripe water may not be suitable for some children who have existing health conditions or allergies to particular ingredients. If you do choose to use gripe water, speak to your family doctor first. There may also be other over the counter medications that could help. Speak to your pharmacist for advice.
