You may have read that dogs have a role to play in preventing children from getting a range of common illnesses and infections. This claim followed a study of almost 400 babies that had taken place in Finland. The study suggested that those who had contact with dogs contracted fewer respiratory infections than those who had no contact. However, the study has been further analysed and the NHS has found that the evidence is not conclusive.
