What is a growth chart?
A growth chart is used by health professionals to measure your child’s growth and development over a period of time. Your little one’s development is monitored by putting their height, weight and head circumference (the distance around your child’s head) on the chart and comparing it against children of the same age. In Ireland, it is mainly health visitors who use growth charts as part of routine reviews that check your child’s development. You might also sometimes hear it referred to as a height and weight chart, although your little one’s height measurements will not be taken until they are aged 2 or above.
