Many parents worry that if their child’s height, weight or head size is different to the average displayed on a growth chart that their little one is not developing properly. It is important to remember that the standard line on a growth chart is the average of many thousands of children, with lots of variation between so many children. All little ones develop at different rates and there is no standard growth pattern in all children – growth charts just show how your little one compares with the same measurement in other individuals. A growth chart is also not an accurate prediction of whether your child will be tall, short, fat or skinny as an adult. Children develop at different rates and at different times.
