As the origin of mouth ulcers is not always clear it makes them difficult to prevent, but good dental hygiene habits can help reduce the number of occasions that your child has an ulcer. Avoiding foods that have high acidity and brushing with a soft bristled, good quality toothbrush after meals is recommended to help keep the mouth free of foods that might later result in an ulcer. There is no danger of ulcers being caught from anyone else, or passed on, as they are not infectious and cannot be transmitted between people. If they are on solid food, making sure your little one has a healthy, balanced diet that is high in fruit and vegetables and rich in Vitamins A, C and E may also help reduce the frequency of mouth ulcers.
